[ Hilary Rosen ]

Hilary is a professional international artist. She trained at the RCA and has lived and worked in London ever since. In addition to her own work she also teaches contemporary watercolour and drawing at an Adult Education College in London.

Hilary had been involved in a project with The Wellcome in correlation with her studios. She is researching into vision and madness. The nascent idea came from a book called Treasuring The Gaze, which is essentially about Eye Miniatures that lovers gave their mistresses. discussing the social, psychological and cultural references to the images. Hilary then became intrigued by the concept of The Ship of Fools and the symbolism and imagery involved with that idea in relation to the visual cortex and dementia. She envisages the outcome of this research to be interactive embroidery at The Wellcome Institute.

Hilary works in many different mediums that include monoprints, oils, drawings and watercolours. The work is thematic, Cityscapes, Still Lives and the existential relationships between humans. A lot of her time is spent preparing images for the pictures in the way of drawing or making small watercolours in situ, for example in Soho or by the Thames then building them into more sustained images in her studio.
